What is the Reportable Food Registry?
In summary, the RFR is an electronic portal for Industry to report when there is reasonable probability that an article of food will cause serious adverse health consequences to humans or animals. The responsible party must file a report in the RFR within 24 hours of determining a food is a reportable food. The responsible party is then responsible to investigate the cause of the adulteration and report their findings when known.
The RFR provides a reliable mechanism to track patterns of adulteration in food in order to support efforts by FDA to target limited inspection resources to protect the public health. Supplementary reports from connected facilities help the FDA coordinate recalls when necessary.
The failure to comply with the RFR requirements is prohibited under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
