Introduction
On September 27, 2007, the President signed into law the Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007 (FDAAA). This law amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) by creating a new section 417, Reportable Food Registry. Section 417 requires the HHS to establish within the FDA a Reportable Food Registry to provide a reliable mechanism to track patterns of adulteration in food in order to support efforts by FDA to target limited inspection resources to protect the public health. The online Reportable Food Registry (RFR or the Registry) was launched by FDA in 2009.
This module provides an overview of FDA's Reportable Food Registry and how the RFR works with the food industry.
